Bandar Seri Begawan - Seventeen teachers from Pengiran Isteri Rajah Mariam Secondary School, Serasa harvested Laila paddy at Kampong Wasan's Paddy Plantation Farm.

The school principal, Ms Lim Siew King, also took part along with the school teachers. This was part of the school teachers' activity led by Haji Azrin bin Haji Tunjang, Misli bin Haji Moksin and Dk Rohana binti Pg Ahmad Damit.

The school delegation was given a briefing by Hj Ismail bin Awg Hj Damit on the planting, harvesting and basking processes before sending the paddy to a factory.

Later on, the teachers harvested paddy belonging to Hj Ismail. The teachers were delighted to harvest paddy for the first time. They used specialised knives to cut paddy stems. Despite limited time, it was an experience for the teachers.

Laila rice contains low micronutrient fibre, carbohydrates and is higher in protein content compared to the Thai rice.
