Multimedia competition to instil awareness on drug abuse

By Hanie Haji Abd Hamid
Five schools competed in the finals of a multimedia competition on 'Drug Abuse Control Education' yesterday at Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School.

The guest of honour was Haji Abdul Aziz bin OKMB Hj Othman, Director of Narcotics Control Bureau who also presented prizes to the winners.

The theme for this year's multimedia presentation on 'Drug Abuse Control Education' was 'Remaja Bebas Dadah'.

This project not only portrayed the abilities of the participants to think competitively and creatively but also instilled awareness on the dangers and consequences of drug abuse.

Touching on the cases of the five locals who were arrested in Chile, China and Australia for smuggling drugs, the guest of honour said the Narcotics Control Bureau through investigations has discovered that the victims were tricked by mostly African nationals who used the Internet to befriend the victims.

Internet surfers, especially women, will be given attractive incentives and rewards until they are willing to meet the syndicate's members that are centred in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Thailand, Hj Abd Aziz said.

"I advise you students to be extra cautious and to shun any form of incentives or rewards offered by strangers you meet on the Internet," he added.

The winners of the competition were PIHM Secondary School in Serasa, followed by Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School and Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School.
