MoE holds recital of Quran competition

MARSAL Hj Masir, an education officer from the Department of Schools emerged as champion in the Qari (male Quran reader category) in the Musabaqah Tilawah Al-Quran Competition of the Ministry of Education (MoE) yesterday.

Held at Institut Tahfiz Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Al-Quran, eight representatives (four qari and four qariah) from departments under MoE competed to represent the ministry at the Musabaqah Tilawah Al-Quran competition.

Pg Hamzah Pg Abdul Rahman, senior laboratory technician at Rimba Secondary School and Hj Azrin Hj Tunjang from PIHM Serasa Secondary School came in second and third respectively.

Pg Hamzah scored 79.75 per cent with his recital of surah Luqman verse 12-19 juz 21, while third-placed Hj Azrin scored 78 per cent. Hj Azrin recited surah Az-Zumar verse 1-9 juz 23.

For the Qariah ceremony (female Quran reader) category, Hjh Nurhapidzah Hj Hassan, an education officer from Royal Brunei Navy Primary School, scored 90.5 per cent to claim the first position, while Hjh Norasidah Hj Ramlee, education officer from PAP Besar Primary School was named the second runner-up.

Hjh Norasidah scored 81.75 per cent in her recital of surah Al-Israa' verse 31-40 juz 15. Third place went to Rozinah Hj Jais, a cook from Jerudong Primary School. Rozinah recited surah Al-Nisaa' verse 80-87 juz 5.

The Deputy Minister of Education expressed his joy to see great development among the MoE officers and staff in reciting the Al-Quran.

"This can be seen in Al-Quran tadarus ceremonies during the last Ramadhan, where there is an increase in tadarus participation in mosques throughout the country," said Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abd Rahman.

The competition was aimed at providing better understanding on the content of the Quran to the department's officers and staff as well as to encourage constant reading of the holy book and make it a lifelong practice.

Marsal and Hjh Nurhapidzah will represent MoE at the Musabaqah Tilawah Al-Quran competition at the ministry level.
